Music Video for Harvey by her's
Artist Statement:
In tribute to Her’s an indie rock music band that passed away in 2019. Her’s was composed of Stephen Fitzpatrick and Audun Laading ages 24 and 25. I had found a deep connection with their music since 2018, and after discovering their death in April 2022, I felt a strong need to make something in contribution to them. To dig deeper, the music video I filmed was under the song title “Harvey” by Her’s. The song contains a large meaning in regards to friendship according to “In Memoriam: Remembering the Life, Spirit, and Energy of Her's” by Natalie Crane they mention that “Harvey” is a “... song is a reference to the 1950 film about a man whose best friend is a six-foot, three-and-a-half-inch-tall invisible rabbit named Harvey. But the duo explained the song also “Makes for a good story about friendship… I think it reflects a bit on our friendship sometimes.``They also mention that “the song is about the love you have for your best friend and he and Fitzpatrick shared a lovely moment about how they were each other’s best friends.” This demonstrates how Harvey is meant to show the importance of friendship and bonds. The lyrics constantly repeat the idea of, “looking for Harvey” to talk about what the artist has experienced.
In the film, there is a character with a unique pink hat, representing Harvery the imaginary rabbit that references the film. In a cinematic scene, the pink hat character explores her surroundings alone. Then she finds her friend that represents the essence of a friendship. Together they are happier, better than alone. They are seen exploring their surroundings. Once both characters leave, there is a feeling of emptiness. Scenes with no people, dark space and the skyline are meant to emphasize loneliness. Without this light of “friendship”, you feel a sense of emptiness. The film ends with the pink character appearing again, showing friendship needs two humans to bond. Similar to how in the 1950 film Harvey, Jimmy Stewart always sees his imaginary friend Harvey as his companion.
